Meet the Proprietor Karen Hanson-Parsons, CPA, TEP

Karen is the founder of Just Estates® - Karen Hanson-Parsons, Chartered Professional Accountant. As a specialized and approachable Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and registered Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP) with over twenty-five (25) years of experience working with families, their estates, trusts and closely held private businesses. Karen’s sole- practitioner firm is a registered accounting firm with CPA Alberta, and she is also a registered TEP member with STEP Canada (Alberta Branch).

Karen is a valuable advisor to executors, families and shareholders of closely-held private businesses. Recognized for being a trusted, objective and well-rounded advisor and a natural fiduciary, Karen has been characterized as the “hub” in any professional fiduciary role; bringing integrity and technical expertise to each client relationship. Karen strives to assist in keeping family & legacy together.

Karen attended the University of Calgary, Haskayne School of Business from 1989-1993, and obtained her Bachelor of Commerce degree (major accounting). Following, she obtained her Chartered Accountant (C.A.) designation through articling in the Calgary and New Zealand offices of a large multinational accounting firm, as a team member in their private enterprise group. Karen’s career in private industry began in 1997 and focused on building relationships with private companies, families, entrepreneurs and advisors that started them. Karen has held numerous senior executive and consulting roles during this time in private industry prior to officially launching her estates & trusts focused public accounting firm, Just Estates®, in 2017.

Karen is a member of both CPA(Alberta) and STEP(Canada).

As a practicing member and registered public accounting firm of CPA Alberta, Just Estates® - Karen Hanson-Parsons, Chartered Professional Accountant is bound by the Institute's Rules of Professional Conduct and the Chartered Professional Accountants Professions Act (Alberta).

As a full designated TEP member of S.T.E.P. (Society for Trust and Estate Professionals) Canada, Karen is bound by the STEP Canada Code of Professional Conduct.
